چکیده

Objectives-To report two patients who developed reactive arthritis in association with Staphylococcus aureus infection. Methods-A review of the case notes of two patients. Results-Two adult female patients have developed sterile arthritis in association with Staph aureus infection. The first patient has had two episodes of arthritis; the first followed olecranon bursitis, the second followed infection of a central venous catheter used for dialysis. The second patient developed sterile arthritis while being treated for pyomyositis. Both patients had a self limited arthritis and were HLA-B27 negative. Conclusion-Reactive arthritis may rarely follow Staph aureus infection. HLA-B27 negativity may be associated with a self limited arthritis in these cases. (Ann Rheum Dis 1995; 54: 131-133) Reactive arthritis is a sterile joint inflammation induced by infection elsewhere in the body. Many organisms may trigger the condition; -3 Staphylococcus aureus is not usually considered one of them, though some case reports have described a sterile arthritis in association with staphylococcal infection. 7 Many of the previously reported cases developed arthritis in association with toxic shock syndrome. 7 We report two patients who developed reactive arthritis in association with Staph aureus infection, neither of whom had toxic shock syndrome. Yersinia specific immune complexes in the synovial fluid of patients with yersinia triggered reactive arthritis.

Yersinia specific immune complexes were demonstrated in the synovial fluid of three patients out of 12 with yersinia triggered reactive arthritis. They were not detectable in the synovial fluid of any of the 16 control patients, including nine with reactive arthritis triggered by factors other than yersiniae. Platelet reactive IgG was detectable in the synovial fluid of eight out of the 12 pati...

Bacterial antigens in synovial biopsy specimens in yersinia triggered reactive arthritis.

Non-viable structures of Yersinia enterocolitica O:3 were shown at the site of inflammation within mononuclear cells in the synovial membrane of eight out of 10 patients with yersinia triggered reactive arthritis. An avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex method, with a rabbit antiserum specific for Y enterocolitica O:3, was used to visualise yersinia structures. All 13 control samples were negative ...

Intestinal permeability in patients with yersinia triggered reactive arthritis.

The passive intestinal permeability of patients with yersinia triggered reactive arthritis was studied using different sized polyethylene glycols (PEGs) contained in a mixture of PEG 400 and PEG 1000. The investigation was carried out at least one year after the onset of yersinia infection, and patients had neither acute gastrointestinal nor joint symptoms. The control groups included patients ...

Antibody response against 26 and 46 kilodalton released proteins of yersinia in yersinia triggered reactive arthritis.

Using an inhibition enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) the serum antibody responses against released proteins of yersinia of molecular weights 26 and 46 kilodaltons were studied in 37 patients with and in 21 patients without reactive arthritis following yersinia infection. Although no difference was seen for the 46 kilodalton released protein, patients with yersinia triggered reactive ar...

Longitudinal investigation of bacterium-specific synovial lymphocyte proliferation in reactive arthritis and lyme arthritis.

BACKGROUND Antigen-specific lymphocyte proliferation of synovial fluid mononuclear cells (SF MNC) has been reported repeatedly in reactive arthritis and Lyme arthritis; however, less information is available on serial investigations of SF MNC in the same patients. METHODS In this study, the synovial lymphocyte proliferation to Yersinia, Chlamydia, Shigella and Borrelia burgdorferi was investi...
